Chemical Composition: Monel 400 (UNS N04400)

Monel 400 is a nickel-copper alloy with excellent resistance to seawater, steam at high temperature, salts and caustic solutions.

Element Weight Percentage (%)
Nickel (Ni) 63.0 min
Copper (Cu) 28.0 - 34.0
Iron (Fe) 2.50 max
Manganese (Mn) 2.00 max
Carbon (C) 0.30 max
Silicon (Si) 0.50 max
Sulfur (S) 0.024 max

*Composition limits are indicative for the listed grade family; applicable product specifications may vary depending on valve component and product form.

Mechanical Properties: Monel 400 (UNS N04400)

Monel 400 provides good strength and toughness over a broad temperature range with strong resistance to marine corrosion.

Property Typical / Minimum Value
Tensile Strength 480 MPa min
0.2% Yield Strength 170 MPa min
Elongation 35% min
Hardness Approx. 65 HRB min
Density Approx. 8.8 g/cm3

*Mechanical requirements depend on product form, heat treatment and applicable ASTM/ASME specification. Confirm final values against the material specification used for the pressure relief valve component.

Chemical Composition: Monel K500 (UNS N05500)

Monel K500 is an age hardenable nickel-copper alloy in which aluminium and titanium additions allow precipitation strengthening, while retaining the corrosion resistance of Monel 400.

Element Weight Percentage (%)
Nickel (Ni) 63.0 min
Copper (Cu) 27.0 - 33.0
Aluminium (Al) 2.30 - 3.15
Titanium (Ti) 0.35 - 0.85
Iron (Fe) 2.00 max
Manganese (Mn) 1.50 max
Silicon (Si) 0.50 max
Carbon (C) 0.25 max
Sulfur (S) 0.010 max

*Composition limits are as per the applicable ASTM/ASME specification for UNS N05500; actual limits may vary depending on valve component and product form.

Mechanical Properties: Monel K500 (UNS N05500)

In the age hardened condition Monel K500 provides roughly three times the yield strength of Monel 400, along with low magnetic permeability and resistance to galling, making it ideal for stems, springs and fasteners.

Property Typical / Minimum Value
Tensile Strength 965 MPa min
0.2% Yield Strength 690 MPa min
Elongation 20% min
Hardness 27 HRC min
Density Approx. 8.44 g/cm³

*Mechanical requirements depend on product form, heat treatment and applicable ASTM/ASME specification. Confirm final values against the material specification used for the pressure relief valve component.
